The scammer lured out more than two million rubles
A resident of Germany contacted the Mari El police. He claimed to have been the victim of a scam. The police have identified the perpetrator. This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Mari El.
On September 29, it became known that the Ministry of the Interior received a letter of thanks from a resident of Germany. The foreigner thanked the police officers for their commitment and professionalism.
It was found that a resident of Germany suffered from a scammer to whom a foreigner transferred more than two million rubles. Since October 2020, the victim has been communicating with the scammer via email. Using various pretexts, including buying groceries, paying utilities, privatizing and selling the house, the scammer lured money from the Germans and promised to repay the debt. The victim, unaware of the deception and wanting to help a friend, transferred more than two million rubles in four months.
The police were able to identify the suspect. It turned out to be a 37-year-old Yoshkaro native. Criminal proceedings were initiated under the article “Fraud”. The case was referred to the court for consideration on the merits.
In his letter of thanks, the German citizen thanked the police officers for their commitment and professionalism: "My visit to your department was perfect, this long journey was worth it. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your dedication to my cause. I will remember you all fondly."
