Mari El police officers found a Cameroonian who had cheated the Russians out of 25 million rubles

Investigators from the Mari El Interior Ministry have closed the investigation into a criminal case against a Cameroonian accused of fraud. This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of the Interior of the RME.

The department said the 50-year-old foreigner first met Russian women through websites and social media, introducing himself as a military man and convincing women he was serving under contract in Syria, Afghanistan or Pakistan. In the future, the man spoke about his plans to start a family with a Russian citizen.

Responding to the victims' trust, the attacker then explained that he had been injured or invaded his country, after which he asked his new girlfriends to special load his personal belongings, documents and valuables for safekeeping. Then the man contacted the addressees on behalf of the courier and asked them to pay fees and other expenses. Women paid requested amounts for packages that actually weren't. The scammer stole the money and disappeared.

In 2021, criminal investigators from the Russian Interior Ministry “Medvedevsky” RME arrested an attacker in Lyubertsy near Moscow. A search of the Cameroonian's home revealed 6 false passports and items used by the police as evidence.

For 4 years, 23 people suffered at the hands of a foreigner: 19 women and 4 men. The total damage amounted to about 25 million rubles.

The property of the accused in 3 crimes was confiscated. The criminal case was submitted to the court for consideration on the merits.
