Edit: The owner of the site in question here, has messaged me several times asking me to remove this posting. He believes it is hurting his business. It is NOT the intention of Romancescam.com to interfere with any legitimate business. The only business we want to hurt . . . no, destroy . . . is the scammers.

I am a member on VDS and even though there are still some fraudulent profiles there on the site, I believe the owner is doing all he can to make the site safe. Like all the dating sites, scammers will be there. If you join any dating site and see a fake profile, or if any member on a dating site tries to get you involved faster than you're comfortable, or definitely if they ask you for money or gifts, REPORT THEM TO THE SITE OWNER!! Some of them do care. This one does.

Still, at one time, there was a problem and RS members have expressed their concerns and opinions here. My apologies to VirtualDateSpace, but this report will not be removed.

Wouldn't it be fun to start a site and rather than blocking them out, allow only scammers in and let them play among themselves.

That would be worth the Google ads and more.

I run such site for 3 years now!! :D Nobody can see it except scammers. If a person with good IP accidently hits it, he/she gets automatically redirected to datingnmore. If a scammer hits datingnmore, he gets redirected to that scammers site.

The purpose of that site is to collect data on scammers rather than simply blosck them. Where do you think the content of my blog comes from?? It fully consists of members of that site.
http://www.romancescam.com/blog/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Another purpose of that site is to keep scammers away from datingnmore. Once they register on that scammers site, they leave DnM alone and don't try to sneak via proxy, which they would do if they realized they were blocked.

I am not even giving URL of that site, as you will not be able to see it anyway, since you are on "good" IP. You will see DnM.

Ah yes, now I even remember the name of the site. Wayne gave me permission to go in and play but I got confused and left ... being the aggressor and approaching the scammers just felt weird. :D

Marisa, do you ever go in and check on them or do you just let them do their own thing? Also, do they stick around after they find it's hard to get money from other scammers?

Kind of reminds me of a dog humping a teddybear.

yeah, I check on them of course, and have a laugh when they start accusing each other of being scammers!

some stick around, some just hit-and-run. The funny thing is, most of them don't realize they are on a scammers site. Probably they are used to this on other sites, where everybody is a scammer anyway, even without any webmaster"s effort. :D

I think the fact that their amount tripled online in the last 2 years is to our advantage and doing them harm. There are so many of them that they are now in the way of each other, and people start realizing they are scammers even without any education.

Before, when a newbie registered on some site and got 1-2 messages from scammers, he/she didn't realize it was a scam, and got suckered. But nowadays, when they register and get hit by 6 scammers, all beautiful, all with similar stories, even the dumbest person feels something is very wrong here. Because of their quantity they educate victims themselves.

We use in our auto-emails what signs to look for when a scammer could be contacting you and in our news section as well. In our auto-mail also we ask you to report a scammer if they believe they have been in contact with one or profile doesnt match up. We have tried blocking 1,000's of ip adresses and they find a way around it. Maybe you can come up with a solution for dating sites for this problem. It isnt the problem our government not doing anthing is the problem.

I've taken a look myself and found 1, 2 even 3 and 4 scammer profiles on every single search page. The owner has been in touch with us asking for the thread to be removed. The facts are however, not only are the comments about dating sites made by members of the forum and not the site itself, but we also have positive comments on sites and will change the status of a site if they change for the better or worse. To the site owner I say this. This site is a fountain of knowledge on how to spot, avoid or fight the scammers, all of it free. Use it and you can clean up your site. The thread stays. I'm sure you wouldn't have complained and asked for the thread's removal if someone had said your site was virtually scammer free.

the solution is a GOOD IP block. Looks like yours doesn't do the job right.

you are not supposed to ban individual IPs. This is a Mickey Mouse job. You are supposed to ban the entire providers, satellites and webhosts with exploits.

I've been in contact with this site owner and even joined his site. I must say I do believe he's trying to clean his house and the site does have potential. It's nicely put together and offers members some things I haven't seen on dating sites before, like a blog, games, a forum, and music and video uploads, chat and a bunch of other cool stuff. There's no ads and so far I haven't been hit up to pay anything. He's either gonna have to charge soon or spam members with ads cuz it's definitely not a public service site.

what do you mean no ads??? there are google ads there!! but there is nothing sinister in having google ads, we have them, too. Having or not having ads has nothing to do with this discussion.

Pinky, this forum is not about discussing site's designs and features. This is NOT what we care or focus on. There are many nice dating scripts available online with all these features you mention. We discuss SCAM here, and ONLY scam, and we will not start discussing site's designs and features now. We are not a dating-site-review site.

However, for the sake of objectiveness, I am updating this topic and agree with Pinky: the webmaster of this site DOES CARE, and is willing to clean up his site and keep it scamfree, so I praise him for his efforts and right attitude.

I wish others listed here by their angry customers did the same! :sigh:
