A 31-year-old Nigerian, Okpako Mike Diamreyan, who immigrated to the United States on May 30, 2008, has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for planning an advance payment scam that swindled victims to the tune of $1.3m.

Deciding the case filed before United States District Court, District Of Connecticut on April 30, 2010, Mr. Diamreyan was ordered to serve 151 months in federal prison and pay $1m in restitution to the 67 victims he was said to have scammed between 2004 and 2009.

Interesting this part on the End.....

He was also said to have claimed to have various consignments stored in Ghana worth millions and promised his victims 20-percent commission in exchange for financial help in transferring funds to the US.

“In one such email, the defendant claimed to be in a refugee camp in Ghana, trying to move a consignment worth $23.4 million out of the country”.

Much as I love to read about a scammer getting arrested, this is just one out of the tens of thousands of the scum still free to ruin lives by their scamming. It's at least a start tho I guess.

Well damn! Being arrested in the US is like a paid vacation for this douchebag. No one will get the money out of him. He'll have support from the outside. He'll be respected and admired amongst his peers. He'll be safe from gang harassment, most likely. Now he has free room, board, clothing, medical, dental, mental health services, religious services, weight training and exercise equipment, organized sports events and teams, entertainment, easy access to drugs and cigarettes, and even a college education - all paid for on the American tax payer's dollar.

The US is the last place I'd like to see any of these cockroaches held.

http://regmedia.co.uk/2010/09/03/diamre ... g_memo.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; tells us how he practically did it:
The scheme involved:
(a) sending email messages to potential victims about large sums of money or other assets;
(b) making false and fraudulent representations about advance fees that the victims had to pay to obtain the money or assets;
(c) posing as government or bank officials to persuade the victims to pay the advance fees;
(d) providing false and fraudulent documents to the victims; and
(e) causing the victims to transfer money to pay the advance fees, usually by Western Union or MoneyGram.
They also exerted considerable pressure on the potential victim, both by email and on the telephone. For example, telephone records show that the defendant called xxx xxx nearly 1,200 times during a two year period.
That´s why they want your phone number! :roll:

Now that is justice well served. And I thought that Nigerians or Africans inside USA don't do that kind of stuff. I thought it was only exterior people.
