I'm talking to 'friendly1' on person.com, who is 18 from Croydon. Is person.com a scam or are there genuine people on these?

I don't know person.com but like any social networking or dating site, you can be sure that there are love rats there. They're everywhere and more prolific on free sites.
Use you own good judgment. Look for the signs of scam. Will they chat on live web cam with you? Will they do some small gesture you spontaneously ask for to prove they're not prerecorded? Do they speak of family, past and present activities? Do they speak with an accent that doesn't match their location? Did they fall in love quickly?
Make it clear that you'll never send money, for any reason and see how long they hang in. And NEVER SEND MONEY FOR ANY REASON!!

I've been active on person.com for some time...its not a scam!...but like every other dating and social site it is infested by scammers! Person.com are a lot better at removing scammer profiles than most sites and there is a small, but effective, anti-scam group that operates on there!
Like all sites...proceed with caution!!!!

Thankyou; the girl that I mentioned - its quite hard to tell if she's a scammer or not - she's not done any 'scamlike' things!
Whats the name of the anti-scam group?

I am trying to remind myself of what the link on the 4th or 5th post down said about 'friendly1'. (She / he / they have changed their nickname to Smiley!).
What did it say?, and why was the link removed (it says The requested topic does not exist)?

Tommy, the topic about 'friendly1' was put in Pending section. That's because there was not enough scam proof on that person. The topics in Pending stay for about 2 months. If no additional information and proof is provided, the topics are deleted from that section as unconfirmed.

All of a sudden, 'she' asked me to meet her - I think I'll just ignore 'her'!

I have suspected for a while that person.com was a source of Mugu stolen pictures as their blue logo has appeared many times on pics on other sites. I have noticed these same pictures used time and time again on sites, especially Oasis/Tata and Tagged! The ones Malaysian Mugus favour.
More recently there has been a trend of profiles (on generally Malaysian scams) to have pictures that are obviously stills taken from webcam broadcasts. One of the features of person.com is the ability to broadcast cams both privately and publicly. It is this that makes the site vulnerable to scammer attack, and a goldmine for the vermin!
Recently a profile on Tagged featured both 'normal' pictures with the Person blue logo and webcam still captures. This got me really supicious and since then I have been monitoring the cams on person.com...and in 4 days , originals of 4 of our "regular customers" have appeared!
All have been sent warnings, i am still waiting a reply from 1 of them , but the 3 others all had no idea of what was going on with their pictures !!
I will continue to view cams and I expect a few more "old friends" to turn up.
Person.com public cams will now be monitored as regularly as the "bride.ru motherload" is checked!

BAD NEWS FOR US, GOOD NEWS FOR SCAMMERS
'person.com' have just removed the profile "user time" information from its site!
Previously in the chat room, the local time was given for the person who you were chatting to!
(I assumed it was reading the computer clock of each individual computer somehow).
This was a fantsatic aid to spotting if a scammer was in Ghana/Nigeria or Malaysia!
However with its demise, its going to make Mugu hunting so much more tricky!
Well done person.com!
(heavy sarcasm) ...You are making the scammers lives so much easier!(Person.com have not yet responded to any enquiries as to why this has happened!)
Unfortunately this may end the existance of the informal anti-scam group there.
There has been a collection of people there who have done a great job of baiting, reporting profiles, creating profiles of scammer picture galleries, leaving comments on pictures and warning/advising people of scams. (They have been a great source for many of my postings here!)
Unfortunately, the group has recently diminshed and the lady who has been the lynch pin, and already demoralized by the recently lax attitude by person.com to deleting scammers, is considering leaving the site completely due to this latest blow!
I shall carry on (infrequently) with the few contacts that remain, but the conserted effort that ********* has made over the 2 years she has been on that site will be irreplaceable!
