Re: OkCupid.com - now a NEGATIVE!
I met 3 scammers in 1 month. at OKcupid, the first one was obvious, he asked for money on the first chat we got and I just blocked the user.
The second one, claimed to be a retired man, from Florida. but I noticed he had worse English than me, and English is not my first lang, I just ignored his messages for a while.
The 3rd one was really clever, he has very good English and he answers on the fly with genuine and intelligent sentences. He said he had to travel to UK for business. and he would be in contact as soon as he could.
He asked for my phone number, and he called me 3 or 4 times a day for 2 weeks. I felt on his lies. until he asked for money. I told him I don't have ( and is true) then he asked me to raise some among my family and friends. I told him I wouldn't ask for money and he became rude with me, telling me that he was trying to get a future for us and I was not helping blah blah.
I compared the messages from both the 2nd and 3rd and realized they were sending me the same poems, and all that BS.
I typed "scammer" on google, and I got all the red flags I didn't see before.
That's how I got here.
Thanks for having all this information for us

Re: OkCupid.com - now a NEGATIVE!
I have been a member of OKCupid for 4 years and only really became active earlier this year. I have met several genuine women there. I have been approached by African scammers there and others have reported it as well.
A free site that allows you to contact other members is going to attract scammers; you just need to be careful and use common sense.
One thing that is good about OK Cupid with respect to scammers is that experienced members are granted moderating privileges and can 'vote' to have suspicious profiles/pictures deleted. The people there are very savvy. It is there that I learned about Tineye, which lets you check to see where pictures you find may be posted elsewhere.
There are also discussion forums where members can exchange information.
I look at OK Cupid as any other public place; there are good, bad and indifferent people there, so you conduct yourself accordingly.

great approach!!! let users do the job that admins shoud do
maybe I should do the same? allow everybody in, forget about IP bans, profile checks, and savvy users will figure out themselves what to do. And those who are not very savvy and don't read forums... well, hell with them!! their own fault for not being savvy and not reading forums.

Re: OkCupid.com - now a NEGATIVE!
OK Cupid is not using members to do their job. It is in addition to the work done by admin/mods. By contrast, Match.com has no forums for members to have ongoing discussions with each other besides in private one-on-one messages.
The only thing to read is articles selected by admins. Match.com has no incentive to stop the scammers from registering. Indeed, given that it is a paysite, the scammers using the stolen credit cards to register and Match.com gets the money.
I am approached by many times more scammers on Match.com than by OK Cupid. I have gotten more successful dates on OK Cupid than on Match.com.

Re: OkCupid.com - now a NEGATIVE!
I have been on OKCupid for over a year now and in their defense, they are trying to get rid of the mugus. Every time I've found and reported one, they've immediately removed them. I have asked them to filter by blocking African IP's and they say they do, but still the mugus slip in. They watch for 'scammer grammar' and do have mods who try to clean house on the fake profiles. It's just overwhelming for a site that big - at least that's their complaint.
I've had a mugu taunting me in messages there for the last few days, who'd send me bizarre messages. He had a hideously ugly picture of a deformed looking African male, that was probably photoshopped. His profile was one liners that were somewhat crude and vulgar. He'd send me messages telling me I was pretty, but looked fat and accusing me of lying about my age - all with atrocious grammar and spelling. I suspected it was a mugu who's scamming profile I burned here. I toyed with him to get an email address to check his IP but today's messages from him were blocked with this:
A SPAMMY MESSAGE
There once was a spam in your mail.
We delete all such things without fail.
They just want your money.
We don't think it's funny.
We wish we could send them to jail.
I thought that was cute. OKCupid is trying.

Dear all
I met many scammers and have posted a couple or so, in other sites here whom I met at OKcupid. But I also found a couple of genuine ones. So this dating site is a mixed.

Ok Cupid!
I tried to go on the dating sites again after the experiences I had with scammers whitch is noted on one of these forums a few years ago! I am also a moderator for OK Cupid and have had some eyeopening experiences I can see why scammers get though! No one including admin or some of the volunteer moderators really cares or follow up on some of the bogus stolen pictures and well someone is going to be a target. I have had six scammers this week message me and I have checked them out and they all came up stolen or scammer! Let me say a huge part of the problem are the dating sites. This is not the only site I have had scammers on and I am guessing that they do not care even though they all write a blurp about not sending money! (hope this is the correct forum?) T

Re: OkCupid.com - (2011 Update, They're Improving)
I don't know how bad it was you talking about but it is certainly not responsible ! I have been with it,Okcupid.com, for a month or so or more and about the only responses I got was from 3 scammers ! And all the admin had to do was check out their pictures on this sites reference to google images. It seems all the dating sites are irresponsible and in fact don't care if it's female users are using pictures of porn stars/models. All they want is money. Also Zoosk had many many Ghana and Nigerian based scammers i witnessed first hand using pictures of models/porn stars that clearly turned up on this sites google picture interface. Also girls date for free has many scammers. I just wish i had known about the picture checking reference given here on this site at that time and also seems this site is the only one I know of in the category of scamming detectives etc. which knows about that site. Long ago I had been informed about http://tineye.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; BUT it did NOT detect any of those scammers using porn stars pictures- atleast not at that time and doubt it does now either.

I am on the dating site in cupid international aswell so far the use of the sites is okay.. But there are a lot off young arabien and also Fake Profiles.
. most of them are from US from the place of living .... but working for the Army.. and there the fake starts.
But one thing is very positiv if you claim a Fake profile due 24 hours they are gone from the site..
they react immediatley.. when you can proof its right about the fake..
thats why it is good to verify your profile.
i just want to say these.
